November 18th, 2009 Giant Panda’s LIVIN’ IT UP

giantpandagds_liveup_art

New York Reggae Band’s Live Album out November 24

LIVE UP! is a selection of high-quality, previously unreleased live recordings, hand picked by Rochester NY’s psychedelic reggae road warriors Giant Panda Guerilla Dub Squad (GPGDS). The independently released album’s 11 tracks were selected from five different concerts in 2008 and 2009.

GPGDS has played 500 shows in the past three years, touring relentlessly and developing a widespread grassroots following. The group has performed at premier venues and festivals across the U.S. including Red Rocks and Rothbury. LIVE UP! exemplifies the tight musicianship and dynamic live show experience Giant Panda is known for. The album was produced and mixed by the band’s sound engineer and show archivist Joel Scanlon. It complements their debut studio release Slow Down (2006).

LIVE UP! is the closing statement of Giant Panda’s former six-piece lineup, as they are now forging ahead as a quartet.

“The reality of this band is that we’re always evolving - musically, spiritually, and within our own circle,” says GPGDS bassist James Searl. “LIVE UP! documents the sound and chemistry that six people shared with each other and crowds around the nation. We’re excited about the future as a quartet, and eager to explore new territories.”

Giant Panda Guerilla Dub Squad is currently on tour in their vegetable-oil fueled van and has already begun working on material for a new studio album.

Band Members
Chris O’Brian - Drums, Vocals
James Searl - Bass, Vocals

November 18th, 2009 Stick Figure’s “Smoke Stack” Attackin’

smokestackalbumfinal1

It’s been two weeks since the official release of Stick Figure’s new album “Smoke Stack” which actually ended up dropping a couple days earlier than expected on iTunes. The album hit #1 on iTunes Top Reggae Album Charts and has stayed consistently in the top 3 spots since the release. Sitting along side notary acts such as Bob Marley, Matisyahu, Rebelution & SOJA just to name a few. As well as debuting in the Top 10 on the Billboard Reggae Album Charts at #8

Scott Woodruff after three successful albums under his belt has proven to be a talented individual.  Scott  played all the instruments, wrote, recorded and self produced all three of the albums but that is all about to change come 2010.   Scott Woodruff has been joined by three talented musicians Brendan Dane on bass, Todd Smith on drums & Kevin Bong on keys. The band will be re-working and re-recording some older tunes as well as some new songs for the bands debut album tentatively called “Stick Figure EP” which will be dropping early 2010.

November 15th, 2009 Stick Figure & SKunK Records

Don’t let the title mislead you because that’s the last thing we need is rumors to flood the reggae scene.  Stick Figure isn’t with SKunK BUT will be playing a last minuet show with some incredible musicians on the SKuNk label.  I know the guys are thrilled to be playing this show.   Hopefully someone will record it for us east coasters.  But for those of you on the West Coast!  Hope you can make it to tell us all about it.

November 3rd, 2009 Stick Figure’s “Smoke Stack” Review

smokestackalbumfinal1When you think East Coast reggae you think of bands like SOJA and John Brown’s Body. When you think West Coast Reggae, you think of bands like Slightly Stoopid, Pepper and Rebelution. What if I told you about a man with no limitations, Scott Woodruff, the mastermind behind the music of “Stick Figure” who is taking Roots Reggae Dub to new heights, sending smoke signals and gathering fans from all over. Scott has just dropped his third LP entitled “Smoke Stack” which he started writing after the release of his sophomore album “Burnin’ Ocean” which was awarded “Top 10 Best Reggae Albums” in 2008 by Apple iTunes.

Stick Figure’s latest album “Smoke Stack” captures a pure ambiance of expression with hard drum and bass intertwined with diverse echoes of dub laced, with all sorts of interesting knickknacks that keep you locked into the sound. Topped with strong, conscience lyrics that hit hard and spread like wild fire into your heart, you have no other choice but to keep on listening. Having seen Stick Figure grow as an artist for over three years, this is undoubtedly his best work to date. We were lucky to hear smoking songs prior to the release of the album like “Hawaii Song”, “Livin’ It” & “Smoke Stack” but you never expect it to be followed up with so many more killer tunes like “On2Night”, “Break of Day” & “Thick & Thin”…just to scratch the surface! I recommend this album for not just all reggae lovers but anyone who is looking for a fresh, original album that possess groovy roots dub rock with a positive message.

November 3rd, 2009 Stick Figure’s New Album Now Available

smokestackalbumfinal

Stick Figure’s new album “Smoke Stack” is now available on Itunes. This album is amazing, I am speechless. For an artist that I have seen grow musically for three years. I knew this album was going to be sick, but this is unexpected like hotter than a smoke stack sick, if you like reggae just a little bit, you will very much enjoy this album! Congrats Scott!
