Rebelution - “Bright Side of Life” Album Review
“Bright Side of Life” couldn’t have released at a better time, our economy is crashing, our people are really fighting to keep their heads above water, but don’t be afraid you won’t drown cause Santa Barbara, CA based band, “Rebelution” has the floatation device to keep your mind open and to have you feeling positive again.
After the soaring success in 2007 from “Courage to Grow”, it was about time that they gave us another album to devour. “Bright Side of Life” is really the “to be continued” part of “Courage to Grow” it almost has the same feel, but you can defiantly tell these guys have matured in their song writing ability. “Bright Side of Life” brings you the same positive life influence that we are all searching for from tunes like “From the Window”, (one of my favorites), “Bright Side of Life” and “Bump”. Rebelution still has a couple catchy little numbers like “Lazy Afternoon”, “More Than Ever” and their single “Out of Control”.
The album opens with “Bright Side of Life” which is with all good things there is bad but always look at the brighter side of every situation and think before you speak or do anything for that matter, because even if you know it or not there are people out there who look up to you as a role model figure, so always be the best you can be. “More Than Ever” follows suit with a cliché number about remembering of a special someone in your life that is gone that might make it back. “Out of Control” has you moving with the kick as melody, a song about falling for someone who makes the situation difficult but something drives you to them. “From the Window” a song about falling down, but don’t give up and keep pushing through cause I’ll make sure you get where your going no matter what comes along.
“Suffering” brings the strong dub in the beginning, a slower paced song but still brings you that positive mentality. “Too Rude” wakes you up to teach you to be positive, open up your mind and stop hating and be kind to everyone. “Dubzilla” This pulls my attention to the horns, it was great to have this on the album, this needs to be in a video game!. “Bump” exactly what you will be doing with your head when you hear this tune, catchy lyrics and really makes you want to push through and make it and don’t stop for anything. “Lazy Afternoon” defiantly the most cliché song on the album, the back and forth melody but does having you thinking about that star in your sky that brings a great feeling to you. “Moonlight” is another slower tune on the album that really reaches out to everyone who has ever felt that life is not going anywhere but there is always something out there for everyone, some light weather it be from the sun or the moon. We all get lost sometimes but we can always find our way…just be strong and look at the light, believe and you will find your answer.
“Change the System” a song that was re-recorded and re-written differently but all the lyrics are the same but I believe this song was over looked in their EP but defiantly has a nice placement on this album. “Wake Up Call” a call out to those who feel the people with money know what is best, so let’s follow in their footsteps. There are too many people out there who have so much money, that they don’t know what to do with and there are people out there who have nothing and they need to have the mentality the more you give, the more you receive but to many of us get lost in the money. Instrumentally this song is a lot different then any of their other songs.
In conclusion “Bright Side of Life” will defiantly have you bumping your head with your windows down and your system up. So don’t have yourself be down the rest of the summer, get yourself back on track with “Bright Side of Life”, a must have for those reggae music lovers out there. No album is perfect but the only really negative thing I can say about this album for myself is, I wish there were a couple more tunes and that some of the songs were lacking a little bit of meat but a little bit too much filler. But don’t let that stop you, go pick up the album and remember to look on the bright side of life!
