The Green - “Love and Affection EP” Album Review
The Green has made a noticeable splash into the reggae scene, hailing from Hawaii and releasing their self-titled debut album. For a new band, word traveled fast and music hit the ears of reggae lovers everywhere; taking this album to the Top 10 Reggae Billboard charts. As well as receiving Best Reggae Album at Hawaii’s 2011 Na Hoku Hanohano Awards and sold over 20,000 copies of the album and was honored as iTunes Reggae Album of the Year. After a year and half, it was time for these guys to drop something new and that‘s exactly what they did, dropping their Love and Affection EP, 5 brand new tracks to ease your mind and to move your feet too.
The album opens up with “Love and Affection”, a loud, dancy number, smacking you in the face with loud bass and heavy percussion, which will have you moving with your mind wide open. The next tune on the album is “Got Me in Love” a laid back tempo, that you can’t help to sway too with powerful vocals on top. The next song on the album is “She Was the Best”, a very rootsy number; reminded me of something Bob Marley would put out. The next song on the album is “Travlah” another upbeat, feel good tune by the guys, that will have you mellowed out, and the last track on the album is a dub version of “Travlah“, entitled “Travlah Dub” done very well with some cool effect running through it.
This was the perfect green fix until the release of their brand new full lenth album “Ways & Means” scheduled for late October! Expect extensive touring dates with friends GPGDS and special guest Chris Boomer. Make sure when they come through your area to definitely catch a show. I was grateful enough to see The Green last year, who was touring with Iration at time and both bands killed it. And I expect the same thing if not more from the guys for their second come around.
